Bank theft grows by a third in a pandemic year

May 19. FINMARKET.RU – According to the results of January-March 2021, 42 thousand facts of theft from bank accounts of citizens were registered in Russia. The number of such crimes over the past year, namely since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, has grown by 30%, according to the report of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Izvestia writes. Residents of Udmurtia, Vologda Oblast and Karelia suffered the most per 100 thousand of the population at the hands of swindlers, it follows from the data of the supervisory authority. Also, earlier there was a low detection rate of crimes committed in the banking sector, due to the impossibility of establishing the identity of the suspect.
